“Alcaraz, Sinner, and Myself,” Holger Rune boldly includes himself in the next generation Big Three
The Dane, known for his strong attitude and confidence, claims to be one of the best players in the near future
Holger Rune, ranked 8th in the world rankings, exudes confidence and surety in all aspects. The youngster has swept the tennis world off its feet, since his display of immense talent last season. Rune won the Paris Masters in 2022, clinching the title after facing off against Novak Djokovic, in a three-set match.
In a recent interview, Rune made a bold prophecy about the future of tennis. He nominated Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and himself as part of the new Big Three in men’s tennis. The trio’s impeccable skills surely make them the creme de la creme of the new generation of players. However, Rune’s confidence in his future endeavors is admirable.
The Danish player admired Alcaraz’s attitude and his keenness to improve. Rune stated, “Carlos Alcaraz deserved everything that happened to him, but I don’t see tennis as a competition between the two of us.” Despite turning pro in 2018 only, Alcaraz’s maturity creates an illusion, as if he’s an extremely seasoned player instead, according to Rune.
Since his maiden ATP 1000 title win, Rune has been rising up the rankings. In the 2023 season, Rune has reached the fourth round at the Australian Open and Rotterdam. The 19-year-old entered the semi-finals in Montpelier and Acapulco as well. Rune is determined to improve his game and is constantly on the run to perfect his skills.
In accordance with his powerful attitude, Rune has high hopes for his future in tennis. He pictures himself as part of the new Big Three along with World No. 1 Alcaraz and his Italian rival, Sinner. With Roger Federer’s retirement and speculations about Rafael Nadal and Djokovic’s imminent departure from the sport in the next few years, everyone is hungry to witness the top players from the next generation.
