Roger Federer has inspired millions of tennis fans around the world. Many young kids grew up watching him play and dominate the sport. Many decided to take their dream forward and became professional tennis players. He is loved and adored by many and continues to be the face of the sport even months after his retirement. One of the many admirers of the Swiss legend is Hubert Hurkacz.
Currently ranked as World No.10, the Pole is in Australia to play at the United Cup with his team. Team Poland also includes the likes of World No.1 Iga Swiatek, Kacper Zuk, Magda Linette, Daniel Michalski, Veronika Falkowska, Lukasz Kubot, and Alicja Rosolska. However, all eyes will be on him and Iga as top-ranked players during the tournament. If Hukarcz has to excel on the court and wants Poland to become the first champions of the United Cup, who can be a better inspiration than Federer.
In a recent interview with Relevant Tennis, Hubert Hurkacz talked about his admiration for the Swiss legend. He also elaborated upon what shots he would like to add to his quiver which can help him to win against his opponents in this tournament and in the season.
“I’ve always loved watching Roger Federer play. He’s an incredible player and person. If I had to borrow anything from his game, it would definitely be the way he engaged in his shots, his plan, and his ideas. It was something really amazing,” he said.

What to expect from Hubert Hurkacz in 2023?
Many tennis commentators and legends consider Hubert Hurkacz the ‘future of tennis’. However, this year has been quite difficult for him. He started the season by reaching the semi-final round of the 2022 ATP Cup. However, he lost the match against Roberto Bautista Agut and was knocked out. Since then, he has struggled to beat top seeds in the tournaments.
At the Australian Open, he was knocked out in the second round by Adrian Mannarino. He struggled on both clay and grass court Grand Slams as he could not reach further than the fourth round in French Open and lost in the first round of Wimbledon. He lost the second-round match of the US Open to Ilya Ivashka. However, he was able to win the Halle Open. He defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final 6-1, 6-4. But that is the only triumph he has secured this year.
Hubert Hurkacz has to work on his play. He needs to perform better at major tournaments. His fans would love to see him advance to later stages of the Grand Slam tournaments. Also, he needs to work on his fitness as playing against top seeds the matches can go deep. The United Cup is the first tournament he will be playing in the 2023 season. If he is able to help Poland win the 2023 United Cup, it will be a great confidence booster for him before the start of the Australian Open.
