Andy Roddick comes out in Novak Djokovic’s support
We all know the history between former World No.1 Novak Djokovic and 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick. They have had plenty of banters between themselves on the past on social media and clearly, most of those conversations left us with a sour taste.
However, recently Roddick came out to the defense of his earlier opposite saying the Serb should have been awarded points for winning Wimbledon and the current No.7 ranking for Djokovic clearly doesn’t reflect tennis reality.
Tennis fans on Twitter were also quick to jump in on the conversation, with some expressing surprise over Roddick’s sudden U-turn and others joining in on the praise. One such user wrote, “The ATP was stupid to punish players instead of Wimbledon” (in the aftermath of UK banning Russian players due to Ukraine conflict).
Recently, Roddick also paid tribute to Swiss great Roger Federer, someone who he has played against in multiple Grand Slam finals, on the occasion of the maestro’s retirement.
Roddick said, ” I hope my son, if he has a hundredth the success as Roger has even one day of his life, is as gracious as Roger is. Not only to the other players or to the officials.“
“You live in locker rooms and you see people throw grip tape on the floor and they walk away. That was never Roger Federer. There was never a sense of entitlement, there was always a ‘please’, always a ‘thank you’.“
“Forget about tennis, let’s put that on the back burner. There’s been a lot of great tennis players, and there will be a lot of great tennis players, but how he conducted himself when no one was watching is the takeaway that I will have,“ said the former No.1 American player.
