World No. 1 Iga Swiatek, just like the majority of tennis fans, was happy to see Novak Djokovic win the 2022 ATP Finals. Djokovic defeated Casper Ruud in the title match to win his 6th ATP Finals title. Djokovic won the match 7-5, 6-3 to end his season with his 5th title of the year to become the joint-most successful title winner on the ATP Tour.

While Djokovic came to Turin as the favorite for the title, he had some tough battles to overcome. Due to the ban in Australia and restrictions in the USA, Djokovic did not compete in any event in the two countries missing two Grand Slams and 4 Masters-1000 events. Despite this, Djokovic did not need the Grand Slam winners’ exception rule as he finished 7th in the race to qualify for the ATP Finals.

Despite the challenges, Djokovic maintained his supremacy when things were on the tennis courts. Djokovic was dethroned from the World No. 1 rank as well and slipped to World No. 8 but that did not stop the Serb from continuing the hard work that yielded his success.

Following Djokovic’s win over Ruud, the internet flooded with wishes for him and Swiatek was also one of the many ‘fans’ to congratulate the 21-time major winner. “What a fighter. Incredible achievement. @DjokerNole Congratulations!” tweeted Swiatek through her official handle.

Djokovic’s win meant that he finishes the season ranked as the World No. 5. He also picked up the big check of $4.7 million as he won the title without losing a single match, the biggest paycheque ever received by a tennis player to date. While Djokovic’s fans were happy to see their favorite win, they also showered love on Swiatek for her gesture.

While Djokovic did not reply to Swiatek, at least on Twitter, the two might get a chance to interact later this year. Both Djokovic and Swiatek will be part of the World Tennis League in Dubai. The two will however be on opposite teams as Swiatek is part of ‘The Kites’ while Djokovic is part of ‘The Falcons’ for the event scheduled from 19th to 24th December.
