World No.1 Iga Swiatek is auctioning the jerseys and shoes she wore at the four majors in 2022 to raise funds in association with UNICEF Poland for children affected by the war in Ukraine. The autographed items are already being bid for on the website of the Allegro charity and have reached a price of close to 500 euros at the time of writing.
The Polish star is also aiding the effort by selling shirts made for her ‘Iga & Friends for Ukraine’ event. Swiatek’s actions will help many people and bring further awareness to the situation in Ukraine. This will not be the first time she has made a statement and thrown her support behind the people of Ukraine, either.
Iga Swiatek was regularly seen wearing ribbons with Ukraine’s colors soon after Russia’s invasion. She also supported the country’s people in her winning speeches. Her compassion extended to a fundraiser event she hosted last July in Krakow. The exhibition featured Ukrainian player Elina Svitolina as umpire and Ukrainian football star Andriy Shevchenko in attendance.
The event raised over half a million euros for charity. The funds were spread between United 24, Elina Svitolina Foundation, and UNICEF Poland. Swiatek also participated in the “Tennis Plays for Peace” event before the US Open. That event raised funds for Ukraine as well.
Swiatek has used her position as a globally known star to bring attention to critical issues. Her exemplary philanthropic work is to be applauded. That she has done all this while finishing the year as World No.1 is even more commendable. The 21-year-old had a brilliant 2022 on and off the court.

Iga Swiatek brilliant 2022 on court
Swiatek had an unbelievable 2022. She won two Grand Slam titles and reached the semifinals of the Australian Open in what was her best year. The 21-year-old added the French and US Opens to take her major tally up to three.
She finished the year with an 88%-win rate and won eight WTA-level titles. But the most important achievement relates to her ranking. Since achieving the World No.1 ranking on Ash Barty’s surprise retirement, Swiatek never let it slip. She has held onto the rank for forty consecutive weeks and does not seem to let it slip anytime soon.
Swiatek will look to go one better at the 2023 Australian Open, which starts next week. Entering the tournament as the first seed, she will have a target on her back. But the star has repeatedly proven that she can deal with the most difficult of challenges in her career.
