Alexander Zverev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas: Preview

Alexander Zverev hasn’t had the best start to his season with a fourth-round outing at the Australian Open and a terrible Golden Swing. Having said that, he managed to reach the final of the Open Sud de France tournament and started the clay season on a positive note by reaching the semifinal of the Monte Carlo Masters. He also made it to the final of the Madrid Open where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz.
In Rome this week, he is yet to drop a set and defeated the likes of Sebastian Baez and Alex De Minaur in the initial rounds before getting the better of Cristian Garin in the quarterfinal in straight sets 7-5,6-2.
Like Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas is also amongst the best players in the world currently. He made it to the semifinal of the Australian Open earlier this year and then reached the final of the Rotterdam Open before bowing out in the quarterfinal at Marseille. He then reached the semifinal of the Mexican Open before a poor outing at the Golden Swing. Back on clay, his favorite surface, he defended his Monte Carlo title before a quarterfinal outing at the Barcelona Open. He then made it to the semifinal in Madrid last week.
This week in Rome, he survived a second-round scare against Grigor Dimitrov and then came from a set down to beat Karen Khachanov in the third round. In the quarterfinal, he defeated a spirited Jannik Sinner in straight sets 7-6(5),6-2.
Alexander Zverev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas: Head-to-Head

This will be the 12th meeting between the duo. Tsitsipas leads the H2H 7-4. They last met in Madrid last week where Zverev won in three sets.

Alexander Zverev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas: Prediction

Zverev and Tsitsipas have now met in the semifinal of the last 3 big tournaments with this meeting in the last 4 making it 4 in a row. They are amongst the very best in the world and hence would fancy one big leap ahead of the French Open. Tsitsipas is a better player on clay but Zverev defeated his last week in Madrid to settle things. Tsitsipas’ incredible defense will be up against Zverev’s forehand and it may all come down to who serves better. Expect a thrilling match with Tsitsipas avenging last week’s loss.
Prediction: Tsitsipas to win in three sets.
