Jannik Sinner is one of the developing stories for this year. He has already won the Open Sud de France at Montpellier, France this year. He has also made it to two finals in the ATP tournaments this year. And on both occasions, he lost to Daniil Medvedev.
The Italian lost to Daniil Medvedev in the final of the ATP Rotterdam Open and the Miami Open. Hence, he considers the Russian as the biggest threat to his chances in the tournaments.
In a recent interview on the sidelines of the Barcelona Open 2023, Jannik Sinner revealed his dislike to face the Russian.
“There’s nobody I don’t like to play against, but the one I consider a very big challenge, and that’s what I’m training for, is Daniil Medvedev. In confrontational matches, I am far behind. But it’s a challenge for which I try to prepare as well as possible for the next time,” he said.
Also, it must be noted here that Jannik Sinner has never won against Daniil Medvedev in the six encounters they have had over the course of their respective careers. Their first encounter was in the Round of 16 of the Open 13 2020.

The young Italian has made some giant strides this season. He is currently ranked as No.8 in the world. After a successful and exciting hard court swing, Jannik Sinner made some gains in the first tournament on clay of this season, i.e. the Monte-Carlo Masters. He reached the semi-final of this tournament, but was knocked out by Holger Rune.
He has entered the Barcelona Open as seed #4. However, the competition level in this event is also high this year. Carlos Alcaraz, who is the defending champion, is also making his return into the tournament. Besides him, Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas can possess a big challenge.
However, there is some good news for Jannik Sinner as well. Daniil Medvedev has decided to withdraw from this tournament. Also, both the 22-time Grand Slam champions Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are absent from this edition of the Barcelona Open. Hence, for the Italian chances are very bright.
Jannik Sinner will play his first match in the Barcelona Open against Diego Schwartzman. He also participated in this competition in the doubles discipline with Alex de Minaur. However, the Italian-Australian pair lost to Mexican-French pair of Santiago Gonzalez and Edouard Roger-Vasselin and is knocked out of the competition in the first round itself.
