Jannik Sinner is in Australia to start his 2023 season. He is participating in the Adelaide International 1 tournament. With him the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Holger Rune, Karen Khachanov, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Denis Shapovalov, among others, are also participating in the tournament. However, there is one name that is on the minds of every tennis fan and almost every tennis player.
The nine-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic is back in Australia. He too, is participating in the first ATP 250 tournament of the season. His participation in this tournament is special because this is the first time he is going to play in any tournament in Australia after his last season’s deportation fiasco.
The young Italian trained with the Serb and is very impressed with him. He thinks that Novak Djokovic is extra motivated to win the Australian Open tournament this time around.
“I trained with Novak and he is very fit. You can see he wants to win and he’s determined. It’s very nice to have him back here in Australia and also to have him at the Australian Open because I think he’s one of the best players in the world, if not the best. I don’t know him that well, but he’s definitely very motivated.
“He will try to win every match he plays, every tournament he enters. Physically, he is very, very good and moves very well…To win against him; you have to play your best tennis,” he said in an interview.
Jannik Sinner’s performance in last season

Jannik Sinner started the year 2022 riding on high hopes. He won 4 ATP tournaments in 2021. However, this season he could manage to win only 1 ATP tournament. He started his season by playing for Italy at the ATP Cup. However, he lost his tie against Roman Saifullin and was knocked out. He then participated in the Australian Open 2022, however, was knocked out by Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals.
His run at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships was disappointing as he lost to Hubert Hurkacz in the second round of the tournament. He participated in many tournaments before the start of the French Open. However, he could not reach the semi-finals round of any tournament.
At French Open, he lost his Quarter-Finals clash against Andrey Rublev. His best performance came in Wimbledon as he went on to defeat players such as Stan Wawrinka, Mikael Ymer, John Isner, and Carlos Alcaraz. However, he was knocked out of the competition by Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.
His only triumph at an ATP tournament came in Umag, Croatia. He defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the final to win the trophy. The 21-year-old also reached the quarter-finals of the US Open 2022 but this time lost to Carlos Alcaraz. He played his last match at Paris Masters. Here he was knocked out in the first round.
