Italian tennis ace Jannik Sinner has made it to the finals of the 2023 China Open and is hoping to overcome the Daniil Medvedev challenge to win his third singles title this year. The 22-year-old is well aware of his shabby head-to-head record against the Russian and hence is looking to try a new strategy this time around.

Sinner has faced Medvedev six times so far in his career, losing on all occasions. The two players have met twice in 2023, in two finals- the Miami Open and the Netherlands Open. In the five sets played, Sinner managed to win only one. Hence, the Italian now wants to try something different to topple the Russian.

Speaking to the press after his win over Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals, Sinner said that he is aware of the challenge Medvedev poses, and considering his record against the Russian, he will try to change a few things. “I’m going to try to change a few things because I’ve never won against Daniil. It will be a big challenge for me, but I look forward to it,” he said.

“I have a new opportunity in front of me to face him, and I hope I can show very good tennis. The serve will be important, but so will the way I can play from the baseline, there are going to be a lot of long rallies. We’ll see how everything goes, I’m really looking forward to it and I’m very happy to see Daniil again,” Sinner further added.
