Jessica Pegula gives her candid take on Iga Swiatek and how the situation has dramatically changed this season with both Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka has taken over.

Unlike last year, which saw the domination of Iga Swiatek throughout the season, this year it has been a little different. It has given chances to other players for a title triumph in tournaments. One such player is World No.3 Jessica Pegula who is also fancying her chances of winnng the Miami Open 2023 ladies singles title.
Jessica is also in a great form and rhythm as she advanced into the third round of the tournament, where she will face Magda Linette . Jessica Pegula is aware of the absence of Iga Swiatek. However, she highlighted that she does not think much about it. In her recent interaction with journalists, she talked about her frame of mind in every match she plays.
“Yeah, it’s always to me the same mentality. I don’t think it really matters who’s winning or who’s losing because you’re starting yourself in a draw, and you have to win your match. You have to win the next one and the next one and the next one, et cetera, she said.
“Yeah, obviously there’s more hype around Iga because she was, like, on a win streak, doing all these things. That was kind of her big, like, on the hard court swing, like really dominating,” she continued.

Jessica Pegula talks about emergence of Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka this season
The American tennis professional would love to win a WTA Masters title on home soil. She also loves Miami and her connections here are deep. But the challenges before her in this tournament are great.
However, although Iga Swiatek is out of the competition and Ons Jabeur is struggling with both form and fitness there is still the threat of Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka, both title contenders. Both the ladies played the final of the Australian Open and the recently concluded Indian Wells Open. It is more than likely that both players will make the final in Miami. It could be their third meeting this season.
Hence, Jessica Pegula who is aware of this fact, believes both the ladies have increased the level of competition this season.
“Yeah, it’s a little bit different, but at the same time you see Sabalenka and Rybakina doing the same thing kind of back and forth. I think there’s always going to be someone. That just shows the depth in the women’s game, that anyone can step up and kind of take over. I think that’s really cool that we have all these kind of big players, star power in the game,” she said.
However, this is not something which is bogging her down. To the contrary, it has raised her hopes for making deeper inroads in the tournaments this season.
“I think it gives me confidence, as well, that that could also be me. If I could really go deep here, that would be awesome, yeah,” she added further.
