Jim Courier has been interviewing players for quite some years. He in his distinguished career had the privilege to talk to many great players on on-court interviews, often after they won. However, in his own testimony, he declared that conducting interviews with Roger Federer was great fun.
The former player-turned commentator commended the 20-time Grand Slam champion for poking fun at himself during his on-court interviews and press conferences. He would try to make everyone laugh and this he believed, helped him to increase his appeal with the masses.
“Players these days, they know that they’re still performing when they’re in the interview, they know they’re still selling themselves to the audience and showing a little bit more of themselves. It’s really because Roger Federer showed that it was okay to do that. He was the one who showed that it’s okay to laugh at himself and to show a little bit more and talk a little bit more about himself off the court,” he said in one of the epsiodes of the AO Show podcast.
Jim Courier was part of the commentary team for the Australian Open 2023. He continues to feature in many Grand Slam tournaments as a commentator and as an analyst.
