The stage is set for the ultimate Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic clash at the French Open. Though they would be playing at the semi-final stage, the match has all ingredients that an epic final match of a Grand Slam would. The world has been waiting to watch World No. 1 and the World No. 3 battle it out in a Grand Slam match which had not happened so far. Alcaraz and Djokovic have met only once earlier in the Madrid Open 2022, where Alcaraz bested Djokovic in 3 sets.
Carlos’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero is also almost equally excited about the match on Friday as the rest of the world. He spoke at the post-match conference of the semi-final match that Alcaraz won against Stefanos Tsitsipas at French Open. A confident-looking Ferrero said, “I think Carlos is absolutely ready. He wants to play the match.” The coach and player duo are riding high into the semi-final after the immaculate performance of Alcaraz against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Ferrero also revealed that the team has done an excellent study of Novak Djokovic ahead of this match. They are well aware of all the tactics the Serb has up his sleeves and they have an answer for all of them. “You have to be ready (for Novak Djokovic). We know Novak well, but I can’t tell you everything. We will try to prepare the game tactically.“
Juan Carlos Ferrero has prepared Carlos Alcaraz for tactical situations
Carlos Ferrero has immense respect for Novak as a competitor. He knows what an uphill task Carlos has on his hand for the French Open semi-final clash. In order to defeat Novak Djokovic, the 20-year-old will have to bring all his ammunition on the court. Not just physical skills but also tactical strategies. The match between the two would be a contest of nerves, longer rallies, and who can set the point well. Perhaps Alcaraz’s favorite shot, the Drop Shot, also might not deliver well against Novak Djokovic.
Ferrero was speaking about what strategy Carlos Alcaraz is going to go with into the match. He said, “We will try to prepare the match on the tactical situations of the match, the difficult situations…”.
He also mentioned that Carlos might not be playing his best tennis on that particular day. In that case, his mental toughness would come in helpful against Novak Djokovic’s steely nerves. “…If you do not play as well as the other days, on the attitude that you must have(while playing against Djokovic),” said Ferrero shedding more light on the strategy.
Obviously, the coach of the World No. 1 tennis player didn’t reveal the details of their plan against Novak Djokovic. But it seems apparent that Carlos Alcaraz’s team is ready to put on a show and play at the highest level against one of the greatest tennis players ever.
