Serena Williams‘ 25-year-long and illustrious career comes to an end as she crashes out of the third round of the 2022 US Open to Australian Ajla Tomljanovic. Despite giving it her all, Williams lost the match in three sets 5-7,7-6(4),6-1. She had earlier announced that the US Open will be her last professional tournament and cited her age and priority change as the factors to take her retirement call.

Serena ends her glorious career as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. She has left behind a legacy that will not be matched in the near future. She has won 73 singles titles in her career, 23 doubles titles, 4 Olympic gold medals, 7 Australian Open Titles, 3 French Open Titles, 7 Wimbledon Titles, and 6 US Open Titles among many others which makes her one of the most decorated tennis players of all-time.

Even in her third-round match against Tomljanovic, she played at a great level and showed some amazing tennis to seal many clutch points. Despite knowing that this may well be her last match, she played with heart and didn’t let any point slip away in casualness.

Golfing legend Tiger Woods, who is one of Serena’s closest friends, took to social media to call her the greatest on and off the court. He thanked her for inspiring everyone to pursue their dreams and expressed her love and admiration for his ‘little sister’.

“Serena Williams, you’re literally the greatest on and off the court. Thank you for inspiring all of us to pursue our dreams. I love you, little sis!!!!!!” Woods wrote on Twitter.

Woods was also seen in Serena’s box during her second-round match a couple of days ago where she stunned second seed Anett Kontaveit in three sets.
