Martina Navratilova condemns UK PM Rishi Sunak for ‘lying off the charts’ as he supports ‘Brexit’ despite majority reports saying otherwise

Rishi Sunak and Martina Navratilova

Tennis icon Martina Navratilova has been fairly active on Twitter, giving her opinions on a plethora of things. Not just limiting herself to tennis, the former World No. 1 speaks on any news that she feels more people need to hear about and uses her global reach and massive social media following to make more people aware of major sensitive topics.

Politics has been Navratilova’s favorite subject to talk about and she doesn’t fear taking on politicians at any level. From town mayors to Presidents, none survives the criticism of Navratilova if they are on her wrong side and newly crowned UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak tasted it recently.

UK left the European Union (EU) on 31st January 2020 at 23:00 GMT and the economy of the nation has since been affected. Amidst this, when Sunak was asked, he replied that under his leadership, the UK will not pursue any relationship with Europe. He further went on to say that he voted for Brexit, believed in Brexit, and knows that it had already started delivering and will continue to do so.

Navratilova, like many others, was surprised at the statement, as the positive impact of Brexit has hardly been seen. The retired tennis star tweeted, “The lying is off the charts- every economic indicator is down in UK, way behind all of Europe, but Sunak is still singing Brexit praises.”

Martina Navratilova’s tweet becomes a debate station for Twitteratis

The decision of Brexit was taken after a referendum with 51% voting in favor of the move. Over the years, however, support for the decision has declined to owe to the economic impact the citizens have faced and many are now wondering whether leaving the EU was really good.

Navratilova’s tweet saw many opinions coming in on the subject. While some tried to counter Navratilova‘s opinion, many others supported her criticizing the UK PM for not coming clean on the subject as recent studies have shown that in the projected GDP growth for 2023, the UK will have 0 growth only ahead of the sanctioned Russia.

While the politics of the UK are better known to its citizens, Navratilova’s tweet is just a testament to her interest in global issues and being well-informed of all current affairs.
