The legendary Martina Navratilova recently took to Twitter to share her views on whether males have a biological advantage over females in sports. Her reaction came after Kelley Robinson’s opinion that she couldn’t definitely say that males have an advantage over females in sports at a hearing. Robinson calls herself the first Black and queer president of the Human Rights Campaign.

To prove her opinions, Robinson talked about how men used to think they have the strength to defeat Serena Williams in tennis. But her views were opposed by American swimmer Riley Gaines who recalled that both Serena and her sister Venus Williams were defeated by men of rankings of below 200.

Notably, back at the 1998 Australian Open, Karsten Braasch had challenged the Williams sister to beat him in an event known as the ‘Battle of the Sexes’. Prior to this event, the Williams sisters had claimed they can defeat any male players outside the 200 rankings. Braasch locked horns with first Serena and then with Venus, defeating them both with the score of 6-1 and 6-2 respectively.

Though Martina Navratilova has been vocal about her support for the LGBTQ community, she is against the notion that transgender women should compete against biological females in sports. On Twitter, she expressed her views by writing: “This is just sad“. Later, Gaines replied saying she had quoted Navratilova at the hearing and thanked her for being a big force.

I quoted you in my opening statement at the hearing. “There will always be significant numbers of boys and men who would beat the best girls and women in head-to-head competition. Claims to the contrary are simply a denial of science. Thanks for being such a force!!.” Gaines tweeted.
