The debate over allowing transgender people in sports is heating up. Although international sports bodies do not allow transgender males and females to participate or even play under the national flag or represent their respective countries, very few sports organizations allow transgenders to participate as an individual in sports.

Moreover, many politicians and sports legends have raised their voices against allowing transgender women in women’s sports and also transgender men in men’s sports. They think that it will give an unfair advantage to these sportspersons. However, there has been no scientific evidence to back it up.

Meanwhile, a social media user shared a video of a debate on GBN News on social media. The topic of the debate was ‘whether having an open category in sports is fair for all athletes’. Gender Nebulous podcast host Freda Wallace along with boxing manager Kellie Maloney shared their views on this topic with GBN News anchor Neil Fox.

As expected, American tennis legend and former professional player Martina Navratilova shared her opinion regarding the same.

Absolute and utter BS…,” her caption read.

Martina Navratilova has always been vocal on issues related to gender and from time to time has raised a voice for the rights of women.

The Czech-born American has inspired millions of young girls and women to take up sports. She won 59 major titles in her more than a three-decade-old career. She, along with many male and female tennis greats, is considered a tennis icon.

However, she shocked the world when she opined that women could not beat men in sports in a social media post a few days ago. It so happened that a female journalist opined that gender has nothing to do with winning in sports. However, the 3-time Australian Open champion did not share her views.

That’s not correct about the science. Not moving any goal posts- what I said is that no woman can beat all men but hundreds of men can beat all women. Fact,” her caption read.

This led to a debate on social media, where the female journalist told Martina Navratilova that women have defeated men in sports in the past. Billie Jean King defeated American great Bobby Riggs in the “Battle of Sexes” in 1973. However, the 9-time Wimbledon champion finished the debate with a strong statement.

Thank you for explaining tennis to me. To say you are delusional would be an understatement. No woman has ever beaten a top 100 ranked man. Your argument is just wrong. Bye now- I am done with your name calling and non answers,” she wrote in reply.

Martina Navratilova always shares her opinions fearlessly on social media and has helped in raising awareness among the public. It is expected that she would continue to do so in 2023.
