Former American legend Martina Navratilova is one of the greatest female players who has played a major role in popularizing women’s tennis. After Elon Musk’s billion-dollar takeover of Twitter, she has been vocal in disapproving of his decisions time and again. This time, she bashed him for his selfish motives after renowned British singer Elton John decided to quit Twitter.
Though the former World No 1 has often been criticized for her unfiltered words, she does not pay any heed to all of them and preaches what she believes in. The former American legend has actively advocated for gender equality and stood up for equal rights for LGBTQ+ community individuals. She has always believed in exercising the power of freedom of speech which she rightly does often through her social media posts.
John took to Twitter to announce his decision to quit the social media giant. He stated that he doesn’t approve of the recent changes in the policy which allows misinformation to flourish unchecked. With this, Musk was quick to respond by asking what particular misinformation he found so bothersome and urged him to come back. The former Wimbledon champion very strongly refuted when Elon Musk did the online poll for reinstating Donald Trump’s Twitter account which was banned for his obnoxious and misogynist remarks. She criticized him for trying to destroy freedom on the social media platform while controlling the media and the political discussion by using Twitter as a tool in his hands.
She has never denied her sexual orientation which had been quite a shocker for many when she came out to admit to being a lesbian herself. Since the 1980s, Martina Navratilova has battled decades of discrimination and unjust behavior but has never backed down from demanding equal rights for many like her.
Apart from her involvement in tennis, she has actively participated in various political debates and discussions. She had openly bashed former US President George W. Bush for poor management, which forced her to opt for dual citizenship and become a Czech resident once again. However, former President Barack Obama has been appreciated by the tennis star as she thanked him for accepting Gay marriages when half of the country was against the community.
