Mats Wilander believes Carlos Alcaraz will have the ‘Tiger Woods effect’ on his colleagues, something the Big-3 couldn’t do
Wilander drew a comparison between tennis legend Roger Federer and Alcaraz, stating that the former wasn't a big deal when he arrived because he wasn't a huge force.

Spain’s young tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz has taken the world by storm. He is currently in Paris, playing at the 2023 French Open and is one of the favourites to win the title. On the red dirt, Alcaraz turns into a beast. And that is why, Eurosport expert Mats Wilander thinks, the 20-year-old can have a huge impact on the game in terms of revenue generation like golf legend Tiger Woods.
Wilander also went on to draw a comparison between tennis legend Roger Federer and the young sensation, stating that the former wasn’t a big deal when he arrived because he wasn’t a huge force. However, Wilander thinks Federer became a force to reckon with when he defeated Pete Sampras at Wimbledon. The Eurosport expert further claimed that with the gracefulness Federer played with, he started clinching Grand Slams and went on to become the biggest thing the tennis fraternity had ever seen.
“Now you take Carlos Alcaraz who, for me, is the birth of a tennis player who has lived his life watching Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer,” Wilander told Eurosport before adding that the Spaniard has been “poisoned” by watching the Big 3 in tennis- Novak Djokovic, Federer, and Rafael Nadal. Wilander also observed that Alcaraz has got the agility of Djokovic, the passion of Nadal and the shot-making skills of Federer.
But according to Wilander, these three legends of the game didn’t show the world the fun they are having all the time when they arrived as compared to Alcaraz. And because of this reason, Wilander thinks tennis players can start making more money. “He’s going to be like the Tiger Woods effect because people want to be a part of tennis because of Carlos Alcaraz,” he added.
Carlos Alcaraz advances to third round at French Open

As expected, Carlos Alcaraz is formidable at the ongoing clay-court Grand Slam. After easing past Flavio Cobolli in the first round 6-0, 6-2, 7-5, the Spaniard knocked out Taro Daniel in the next round 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. He is set to lock horns with Canada’s Denis Shapovalov on Friday, in the third round at the Phillippe-Chatrier court.
The two players haven’t met before, so their head-to-head record stands at 0-0. Shapalov, on the other hand, beat the likes of Brandon Nakashima and Matteo Arnaldi in the previous rounds. Alcaraz is expected to breeze past into the fourth round without breaking a sweat.
