American tennis icon, Serena Williams, is easily one of the greatest tennis personalities of all time. With her arrival on the scene, she infused a new era of dominance and athleticism on the women’s professional tennis tour. As far as the numbers are concerned, Williams has accumulated a total of 23 Grand Slam singles titles in her career, the most by any player in the Open Era.

Despite all these achievements, American former professional boxer, Mike Tyson has a different opinion of Williams and does not consider her the best in the world. In the latest episode of his podcast Hotboxin, Tyson snubbed the 41-year-old and named Japanese star Naomi Osaka as the best payer in the world.

That being said, Tyson has the utmost respect for his fellow American Serena Williams. In 2018, when Williams accused the referee of sexism in her match against Osaka, Tyson took the side of Williams and backed her.

“I thought it was a wrong call the chair umpire made. Serena was unfairly targeted. This said she should have kept her cool and not argued with him. Arguing with him would have never done her any good.” said Tyson in support of Williams.

In the same episode, Tyson also opened up about his daughter being mad at him for meeting Osaka. “I can’t believe my daughter is supposed to be mad at me for being with the most beautiful and the best player in the world.” he said.

American legend Serena Williams is possibly the greatest tennis player when it comes to her achievements on the court. She has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles in her career, the most by a player in the Open Era, male or female. In a career spanning over two decades, only a few of her contemporaries that include her older sister Venus Williams could rival her dominance.

Williams made a statement that she is planning to ‘evolve away’ from tennis at her last match in the US Open hinting at her retirement, though she had not made it official. Currently, she is spending some quality time with her husband Alexis, and daughter Olympia.

Williams was recently featured on the list of highest-paid female athletes of 2022 with her $35 million earnings after Naomi Osaka, despite being partially present on the Tour. Recently she also received some post-retirement advice from Martina Navratilova.
