Monte Carlo Masters 2023: Where to watch, live streaming details, and TV schedule

The 116th edition of Monte Carlo Masters is scheduled to be held from April 9-16. The ATP 1000 tournament is the opening clay championship every year. The summer event will be followed by the rest of the clay-court ATP tournaments such as the Madrid Open, and the Italy Open. Many top seeds like World No.1 Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, and Casper Ruud are set to participate.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is the second seed in Monte Carlo, seeks to defend his title. Frances Tiafoe, Stan Wawrinka, Taylor Fritz, and Cameron Norrie are some of the other players who will join the competition. Unfortunately, eleven-time winner Rafael Nadal has pulled due to his hip injury. The Spaniard will not make his comeback at the iconic location.

Following Nadal’s withdrawal from the tournament, Carlos Alcaraz also retired from the event. Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov have also stepped back from the fray. In the Spaniards’ absence, Djokovic’s victory is more than likely. However, Tsitsipas, who aims for a third title win, will definitely become an obstacle for the aspirant.

While the Greek hopes to claim his maiden title this season, Djokovic seeks to make a worthwhile comeback after his absence from the Sunshine Doubles. After a number of withdrawals, Fabio Fognini and Stan Wawrinka, who are former champions, received wildcard entries. Andy Murray and Jack Draper are also among others to be given direct entry as a result.

The inaugural edition was held in 1897, however, it wasn’t until 1969 that it was designated an Open competition. Despite being a Masters event, there is no mandatory player commitment. It is held at Monte Carlo Country Club in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France. The most number of titles have been won by Nadal. The clay master also holds the record for the highest number of consecutive title wins. He achieved the tremendous feat by clinching the Monte Carlo title every year from 2005-12.
