Right after his first-round exit from the 2023 French Open against 130th-ranked Fabio Fognini on Monday (May 29) on Court Simonne-Mathieu in Paris, Felix Auger-Aliassime enjoyed the European summer with his girlfriend Nina Ghaibi on the French Riviera. He posted a couple of pictures on his Instagram enjoying the break, which did not go down well with the fans, who rather want the 22-year-old to train hard for the upcoming tournaments.

The world number 10 blamed his first-round loss in straight sets on health concerns. Owing to the Canadian’s shoulder problem, he was forced to withdraw from the Lyon Open quarterfinals prior to his French Open campaign.

After the loss to Fognini, he disclosed that though the shoulder wasn’t the issue during the match against the Italian, he had fallen ill the previous night as a consequence of which, he did not sleep well and it also showed in his lackluster performance.

In addition to this, he also struggled with cramps during the game. He expressed hope of participating in the next tournaments after recovering to full health during the break and he also emphasized undergoing medical tests to know why he fell sick again and again.

Yeah. I mean, the shoulder is not great, but that wasn’t the issue today,” he said at the post-match press conference. “I got a bit sick last night, didn’t really sleep. Yeah, sick all night. That’s just a reality. I mean, I woke up this morning trying–I mean, it’s like I’ve been struggling with a few things, and it’s like, can you believe it, I get sick the day before my match?”
