Before the hearing, the 27-year-old Aussie arrived at the court on a pair of crutches. He was flanked by his current girlfriend Costeen Hatzi and his mother. Earlier, the hearing was scheduled for 2022 but he sought an adjournment to play in the US Open. Kyrgios also tried to have the charges against him dismissed on mental health grounds.

The offense carries a maximum jail sentence of two years if convicted. But the future of Kyrgios, who is represented by Canberra solicitor Michael Kukulies-Smith, in this case, is yet unknown after pleading guilty. Currently, Kyrgios is recovering from the knee surgery. He is hoping to make a comeback as soon as possible after missing the Australian Open.

Kyrgios did not speak to reporters on his way into the building. “There’s only so much I can control and I’m taking all the steps and dealing with that off the court,” he had said about the case earlier.
