Nick Kyrgios has finally broken his silence on the assault charges leveled against him by his ex-girlfriend, Chiara Passari. The Australian tennis player has pleaded guilty in front of the magistrate Beth Campbell in the court during the proceedings.

The case dates back to January 2021, when the 27-year-old assaulted Ms. Passari after a heated argument between the couple unfolded on the roads of Canberra, Australia. However, the official complaint was filed by Ms. Passari only after the couple split in December of the same year.

Although the charges leveled against him are serious, Nick Kyrgios will not be going to jail. When sentencing Mr. Kygrios, Magistrate Beth Campbell said he had been “a young man trying to extricate himself from a heighted emotional situation. You acted in the heat of the moment. I am dealing with you in the same way I would deal with any young man in this court. You are a young man who happens to hit a tennis ball particularly well.”

His lawyers also argued to pardon him for consistent mental health issues that the 2022 Wimbledon finalist has suffered from throughout his career. Although the magistrate did not take the mental health issues as a subjective ground to spare him from conviction, she did call the incident “a single act of stupidity or frustration”.

A few days ago even Alexander Zverev got a clean chit from the ATP tour. This new incident is being seen in the same light by tennis fans.
