Nick Kyrgios

Australian showman Nick Kyrgios has grown to be a changed player this season and is finally living up to his potential. He had a good start to the season and despite results not going his way, he was showing signs of consistency in his game. He reached the quarterfinal of the Indian Wells Masters and made it to the Round of 16 at Miami.

He then made it to the semifinals in Houston before skipping the clay season. He was one of the best players on grass this season and had a semifinal outing in Stuttgart and repeated the same in Halle. He then stunned everyone by reaching his maiden major final at Wimbledon. In the North-American swing, he won the Citi Open and then made it to the quarterfinals in Montreal.

In the US Open, Kyrgios gets a tricky draw but will fancy his chances for a spirited run. He will open his campaign against his doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis on Monday. He will then face Ugo Humbert in the second round and then is expected to meet Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in the Third round.

Going further, he is expected to meet World No.1, Daniil Medvedev, in a blockbuster Round of 16 clash. Medvedev and Kyrgios don’t bode well on a personal level which will add more flavor to the matchup.

If Kyrgios manages to stun Medvedev, which he can, given his form, he will then face either 6th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime or Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarterfinal. In the semifinal, he could meet Stefanos Tsitsipas, another player who doesn’t bode well with Kyrgios. He could eventually go on to face 22-time grand slam champion, Rafael Nadal, in the final of the 2022 US Open.
