“Not trying to expect too much,” Emma Raducanu gives injury update ahead of the 2023 Australian Open
With less than a week to go for the 2023 Australian Open, Emma Raducanu gives an update on her injury suffered in New Zealand.

World No. 75 Emma Raducanu did not have a good start to the season. While the standard of playing was some of her best, she suffered an injury once again. Playing at the 2023 ASB Classic in Auckland, Raducanu won her first-round match against Linda Fruhvirtova in over three sets and then took on Viktoria Kuzmova.
She dropped a bagel in the first set and narrowly lost the second set. Towards the end, however, she rolled her ankle over and was in visible pain. Despite receiving on-court treatment, she could not continue playing and tearfully withdrew before the start of the third set.
With injury scare ahead of the 2023 Australian Open, the Briton opened up on her recovery having reached Australia already.
“It was really unfortunate because I was feeling great about my season, I was feeling really good with the preparation I did physically. And I just had an accident on the court, I don’t know what I could’ve done to really prevent that. I’m just taking it a day at a time and just trying every single day as best as possible to see and make progress.
“We’ll see hopefully by Monday or whenever the tournament starts, I’ll be OK and ready. We’re just taking it a day at a time and not trying to expect too much at this point,” said Raducanu looking to make her second appearance at Melbourne Park.

Emma Raducanu’s ill luck at Grand Slams since winning the US Open
Former World No. 10 Emma Raducanu started her journey at Grand Slam events brilliantly. Making her Major debut at the 2021 Wimbledon, she reached the fourth round ranked outside the Top-300. That made her the youngest British woman to do so. Two months later, Raducanu won the 2021 US Open. She was ranked 150th in the world, becoming the first qualifier in the Open Era to do so.
Things have been downhill from the teenager since then. At the 2022 Australian Open, she lost in the second round losing to Danka Kovinic. She later revealed that she had blisters on her hand. At the 2022 French Open, the story was no different as she went down against Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round.
Back on home turf at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, she again lost in the second round, this time to Caroline Garcia. Her poor results led to many believing her title defense at the 2022 US Open won’t be successful and they were proven right. The defending champion lost in the first round itself to Alize Cornet. That made her the third woman in US Open history to lose in the first round during a title defense year. She also dropped out of the Top-80 rankings.
