Former World No 1 Novak Djokovic registered a comfortable win against the Norwegian Casper Ruud in the finals to clinch his sixth ATP Finals title. He remained undefeated in the final tournament of the year and dropped only one set that had happened in the final match of the group stage.
He had defeated American Taylor Fritz to grab his place in the Final Two for the eighth time in his 15th qualification. In the Group stage, his three wins came against Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev, and Daniil Medvedev. Despite having to face an unexpected turn of events at the start of the year that came with a lot of uncertainties over his participation chances, he ended the year on a perfect note as he equaled the title win record with Roger Federer.
With records being broken after the end of each tournament, the Serb unlocked a new achievement in his kitty as he claimed the ATP Finals title in three different decades. The win against Ruud in the finals unleashed a unique record for Novak Djokovic and will motivate the younger generations to put their best foot forward.
His first win came in 2008 and between 2010-2020, he clinched four titles. It won four consecutive titles starting from the year 2012 and the last one being in 2015. After a gap of almost seven years, Djokovic finally grabbed his hands on the trophy. The title win in Turin marked his 91st ATP title as he becomes the fifth player to win 90 or more titles and the second among active players with just 1 title win behind Rafael Nadal.
Novak Djokovic surpassed Roger Federer to become the oldest player to win the ATP Finals trophy

After being forced to skip the US Open due to his unvaccinated status, he has managed to win 17 out of his last 18 matches and reached four consecutive finals and winning three out of them. It was his fifth singles title of the year including the win at the All England Club where he remains undefeated for the last four years.
The 2022 Wimbledon champion surpassed Roger Federer‘s previous record to become the oldest champion in the Open Era to win the Year-end Championship at 35years of age. Federer’s record was set when he won the title in 2011 when he was about 30 years of age at that time. Also for being the undefeated champion, Novak Djokovic took away $4.7 million as prize money, which is one of the largest amounts ever awarded.
Due to being absent from the Tour in the Australian leg and missing all tournaments in the North American leg along with failing to defend his titles, his rankings saw a gradual drop, and fell out of the Top 5 despite winning Wimbledon. But with the title win in Turin, Novak Djokovic will finish the year with improved rankings as he again moves back into the Top 5 ATP rankings.
