Daniil Medvedev, the current World No. 3, has been one of the most consistent players on the tour. He may not have won as many Majors as he would like to, but he has surely reached the finals quite many times. His coach Gilles Cervara blames Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal for making it difficult for his student.
In 2023, Medvedev made it to the finals of nine tournaments of which he won five. Two years ago, he won the US Open and since then; he hasn’t been able to win any Grand Slam titles.
The Russian made it to the finals of the same tournament this year but lost to Novak Djokovic in 3 sets. This was his most recent chance at a Slam and the coach claims that his player is facing Djokovic and Nadal in the finals, which is putting the Russian at a disadvantage.
The only thing I can say is the fact that he played all his finals against Nadal and Djokovic.Gilles Cervara via Championat
Medvedev may not have been able to win at Grand Slam tournaments but he has surely made an impact on other ATP titles. The Russian has consistently entered the semi-finals and finals of tournaments but he has been unable to take it home and win a trophy.
Daniil Medvedev’s coach wishes to see the results if his player faces someone like Alcaraz or Sinner in the finals
Excuses pour on for Medvedev and his team as the coach also backs up his player for not being able to convert the finals appearances into title wins. The coach blames the seniors for making it difficult for his player and adds that he wishes to see the results of the game if Medvedev were to play either Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner in the finals.
Dana just needs to play the way he did in Turin. He played well, played very aggressive and attacking tennis - this is the key to success against the current Jannick. It's similar to how to play against Djokovic. You need to be good in all phases, in all shots.
However, Medvedev has previously lost to both these players in the past. He recently lost to the Italian in the Vienna Open finals and the semi-finals of the ATP Finals. Despite this, the Russian is currently at World No. 3 and if he manages to win those finals in the coming years; he is a threat to the others on the tour.
2024 is about to start and Medvedev has already started his preparation for the next Grand Slam, the Australian Open.
