Novak Djokovic transformed into one of the greatest tennis players of all time after years of practice and sheer hard work. But there is always a beginning. The 21-time Grand Slam champion also must have started from somewhere. What was the spark that ignited the fire?
This question remained in the minds of tennis fans all around the world. After almost two decades of watching the Serb playing and winning title after title, this question has finally been answered. The answer came from the maestro himself.
We Are Tennis, a campaign by BNP Paribas dedicated to the promotion of tennis sport, has posted a cute picture of little Novak Djokovic hitting the ball with his tennis racquet.
“Tennis was not our sport in the family. I fell in love with it by accident. They built 3 courts in front of my family’s restaurant. I started watching tennis on TV and asked my parents to get me a racket. That’s how it all started,” the caption read.
Novak Djokovic took the time to hone his skills and improved his fitness to be able to compete at the international level. And what a great story and inspiration we all got.
What to expect from Novak Djokovic this season?
Novak Djokovic after a thunderous climax to his 2022 season and after winning the 2022 ATP Finals trophy is ready to start the 2023 season. To give him more confidence, the Australian Government lifted the ban it had imposed last time to play in the Australian Open Down Under.
He will start his season by participating in the Adelaide International tournament that will be played between the 1st and 8th of January, 2023. He will be locking horns with Daniil Medvedev, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Jannik Sinner, and Andy Murray amongst other Top seeds in his bid to acclimatize himself and prepare better for the 2023 Australian Open.
His fans would love to see him more in the ATP tournament besides Grand Slams. He may add a few Grand Slam titles this season and thus have a chance to become the player with the highest number of Grand Slam titles.
But important tournaments organized in the North American continent such as the Miami Open, Cincinnati Masters, Canadian Open, and the US Open may miss him, as the USA and Canada continue to impose a ban on players with unvaccinated status against Covid-19. The tennis community is hoping though that both governments allow him to play on their soil. Also, this year, if he qualifies for the 2023 ATP Finals tournament, he will have the chance to become a player in this tournament the most number of times.
