The 21-time Grand Slam winner had a rough start to the year that started with his deportation from Australia on the eve of his match at the Australian Open for his unvaccinated status along with the firm stance of neither getting vaccinated. He was forced to skip two Grand Slam events of the year with his only Grand Slam was in Wimbledon. He has been commendable on his comeback since he was two consecutive titles at the Tel Aviv Open and at the Astana Open.

His participation chances were minimal since he faced a visa ban as per the deportation rules in Australia which state that once deported, the visa gets canceled for three years. But Novak Djokovic was hopeful of a positive result, though he had claimed that he knew of the consequences.

Finally, after a long battle on the legal court, he got a nod to play at the 2023 ‘Down Under’ with his ban being revoked. He opened up about his thoughts during the rough phase when he claimed that he cannot impress anyone which is impossible to achieve, but the least he can do is to be genuine. He also said that the freedom of speech in today’s world is just an illusion for him.
