World No. 2 and a legend of the sport, Novak Djokovic, has given his take on one of the legends of football, Lionel Messi, after meeting him for the second time in about four months. It has been a rollercoaster kind of season for the Argentinian, having lifted the golden trophy he has been dreaming of all his life back in December last year and then leaving the French capital to join the team with the worst record in MLS.
Novak has always been close to football greats for his love of the sport, be it Cristiano Ronaldo, Gerard Pique, or Kylian Mbappe. In a recent press conference, he shared his experience meeting Messi ahead of his 2023 US Open game and the conversation they had. Novak went on to state that they discussed life and family and marked Messi as a true ‘champion’.
Novak said, “He is a phenomenon. The first time I met Lionel was before starting Roland Garros. I was about to watch a Paris Saint Germain game, when he played there. The second time was now in New York.”
He further continued, “We talked for about 15 minutes about the family, everything about life. I would like to meet him again to talk about sport and all that because his mentality is a huge champion. I have a lot of respect for him.”
How has Lionel Messi looked so far in his new threads?
Lionel Messi has completely changed after switching from the navy blue of Paris to the pink of Inter Miami. He has changed the club completely since joining them, scoring a total of 11 goals and three assists in just 10 matches. He has also led the side to their first-ever major trophy by winning the League Cup, and he has also helped his side book a place in the US Open Cup final.
Inter Miami was sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference table when Messi joined them, but now they are a completely different team, with every single team finding it hard to beat them. Miami is on course to reach the playoffs with still more than eight games left to play, and now with arguably the best footballer ever playing for them, things will be much easier compared to before.
