Ons Jabeur has criticized the WTA as the air of uncertainty regarding the schedule of the Tour Finals keeps growing. The year-end tournament was slated to return to China after the WTA ended its boycott of the country. However, as things stand, the host city for the event has yet to be finalized.

Three-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur is not pleased with the WTA’s approach to the situation. It is believed that the tournament could be moved to Saudi Arabia, with the dates yet to be finalized. The Tunisian tennis player warns the WTA that the players will have to compete in empty stadiums if the venue is not finalized at the earliest.

Ons Jabeur is currently ranked number five in the world and is expected to make the cutoff for the year-end finals. She recently reached the finals of Wimbledon 2023, where she was defeated by Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets. This was her third consecutive loss in the finals of a Grand Slam event.

Ons Jabeur has urged the WTA to start promoting the mega event at the earliest; otherwise, they could risk the wrath of the fans. “It’s frustrating. I don’t know what’s happening or why we don’t know yet. We are waiting. I heard a few cities. I’m not sure where. Some say Saudi. I’m not sure. I wish they could take the decision as soon as possible so we would know where we want to go and the fans would know so we don’t have empty stadiums and we can promote the WTA Finals as soon as possible, said Jabeur.

Ons Jabeur failed to make it past the round-robin stages of the WTA Finals last time around. Her sole victory came against Jessica Pegula, as she was defeated by Maria Sakkari and Aryna Sabalenka. She will look to strengthen her ranking by putting on a good show at the US Open, where she ended as the runner-up last time around.

With just under three months remaining for the season-ending tournament, it is high time that the WTA finalizes the location and the schedule for the tournament. Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, ranked World No. 1 and 2, respectively, are the first two players to qualify for the event.
