Ons Jabeur defeated Bernarda Pera in the fourth round of the 2023 French Open and is set the face the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia in the quarter-finals. Ons Jabeur who is currently World No.7 has a unique take on her Grand Slam aspirations and journey.
‘My motto for this tournament is: I’d lost twice on Chatrier and I won the third time; I’d lost twice in R4 and I won the third time; I lost twice in the final of a Grand Slam, so maybe the third time will be the charm as well’, said the Tunisian. She became the first African player to reach the quarter-finals at all four Grand Slam tournaments in the Open Era.
Marion Bartoli, a former professional tennis player who won the 2013 Wimbledon Championships singles asked Ons Jabeur about her preparations for the 2023 French Open quarter-finals. “You’re already a 2-time Slam finalist at Wimbledon & US Open last year… How are you going to prepare for your quarterfinal at Roland Garros?”, asked Marion Bartoli. Ons Jabeur was quick to subtly point out Bartoli’s Wimbledon triumph and replied, “The two finals you talked about.. Maybe you need to tell me how to win Wimbledon since you’ve been there”
