Piers Morgan calls Naomi Osaka a ‘sulky brat’ after her comments on potentially snubbing this year’s Wimbledon

Journalist and broadcaster Piers Morgan is one of the most outspoken critics and has rarely been polite with any player. Naomi Osaka has often been one of his targets and the Brit has always managed to find windows of opportunity to hit out against the 4-time Grand Slam champion.

Naomi recently played at the 2022 French Open where she suffered a first-round defeat, the second time she has lost in her opening round fixture. With Naomi yet to go past the 3rd round in Paris, it is well known about her struggles on the surface. Given the current situation of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships where no ranking points will be on offer as ATP and WTA stripped Wimbledon of all ranking points after the Grand Slam did not make any changes to their decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players from playing this year due to the Ukraine war.

With Naomi currently ranked outside the Top-30, she is in need of ranking points to boost her rankings and with Wimbledon offering nothing, she expressed her doubts over participation in the third Grand Slam of the season.

“I would say the decision is kind of affecting my mentality going into grass, like I’m not 100 per cent sure if I’m going to go there. I would love to go just to get some experience on the grass court, but at the same time, for me, it’s kind of like – I don’t want to say pointless, no pun intended – but I’m the type of player that gets motivated by, like, seeing my ranking go up or stuff like that. So I think the intention was really good, but the execution is kind of all over the place,” Naomi had said during her press conference in Paris.

With the bold decision by ATP and WTA reducing the Wimbledon to nothing but a high-paying exhibition event, many Brits have taken the decision in bad taste and Morgan looked one of them. Replying to a tweet by Mediaite on Twitter where the news handle tweeted about Naomi’s comments, Morgan found another opportunity to take a dig at the former World No. 1 by saying, “Great! We don’t want this sulky brat anyway.”

During last year’s French Open, when Naomi announced her mental health challenges and withdrew before her second-round match, Morgan had attacked her calling her many names and inclining toward the fact that all of Naomi’s actions were a charade to escape any criticism for the match performances. While he did get slammed on social media, it is safe to say that he continues to hold similar feelings for Osaka.
