Following his record-extending triumph at the French Open, Rafael Nadal stated that Roger Federer gave him a special message of congratulations.

Rafael Nadal won the French Open final on Sunday, defeating Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 for his 14th victory at Roland Garros and 22nd Grand Slam title overall, adding to the two records he already held. Nadal’s victory came two days after his 36th birthday, making him the clay-court tournament’s oldest champion ever.

However, after his historical victory, it seemed pretty unusual when there was no congratulatory message for Rafa from Roger Federer on social media. Considering Nadal and Federer have maintained a healthy relationship over the years, it was pretty astonishing. Many people assumed that the two were not on speaking terms. However, Nadal himself stated that Federer had personally thanked him after the major win, putting an end to all the uncertainty and wonder.

The 36-year-old, who currently has a significant lead in the GOAT argument with 22 Grand Slam championships, opened up about his relationship with Federer during an interview with Sky Sports in Italy following his triumph over Casper Ruud in the Roland Garros final. He said, “With Roger, we have a good relationship and a special feeling. After the victory, he wrote me a message to compliment.”

To add to the delight of tennis fans, the two legends will team up to represent Team Europe at the Laver Cup later this year. Both have confirmed their participation in the competition, which will take place from September 23 to September 25.
