World No.3 Casper Ruud shows again the world that he is a Rafael Nadal fanboy as he chooses the Australian Open 2012 final as one match he wishes to change the result of. For the uninitiated, that match is considered to be one of the greatest tennis matches of all time which lasted for 5 hours 53 minutes and Novak Djokovic edged past Rafael Nadal 5–7, 6–4, 6–2, 6–7(5–7), 7–5 in the end.
Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud were present together for the press conference ahead of their exhibition events in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the Norwegian was responding to a question asked by the reporter about what’s one thing about the world of tennis that he would have changed back at the start of his career and if it’s still the same now.
Ruud paused for some time and then opened up on his wish to see Rafael Nadal lifting the 2012 Australian Open championship instead of Djokovic. He voiced like a hardcore Rafael Nadal fan as he continued to share the emotions he had for some days after that final. As quoted by him, “I think I can say for Rafa that I wish I could change one result in the history of tennis, and Rafa will be, I don’t know if he’ll be angry or happy for me saying this, but it’s not the RG final this year because this was not a very close match, Rafa’s Australian Open loss in 2012 against Novak.”.
continuing his train of thought, “I was probably even more sad than himself, because I was watching 6 hours on TV and hoping Rafa will win and then was probably one of the best matches ever and then, I think for days, I was still sad about the loss for him
and I still wish today that he could have won. And I don’t know, I didn’t want to bring back bad memories for him but this is something I wish I could change and still believe.“
Rafael Nadal made a funny response to this statement that we could ask Novak Djokovic to send the trophy back to him which made the whole conference room burst into laughter. The video is already being shared in numbers among Nadal fans on Twitter and other social media platforms.
Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud are currently playing exhibition events in Latin America
World No.2 and 3 are currently in Buenos Aries, Argentina to play their first match of the exhibition series. The schedule of the event looks like this: After a day of traveling, they will be in Santiago, Chile on November 25. Argentine former US Open champion Gabriela Sabatini and Gisela Dulko will be also joining them in some part of the tour for playing the mixed doubles event.
From November 26 to 27, the events are scheduled to be in Bogota, Columbia, and Quito, Ecuador. Brazil comes next in the tour where they will play in Belo Horizonte on November 29. The tour will finally end in Mexico City on December 1.
Following the exhibition event, the Spaniard will participate in the new United Cup representing Spain along with Pablo Carreño Busta, Albert Ramos, David Vega, Paula Badosa, Nuria Párrizas, and Jessica Bouzas from Dec 29 to Jan 8. The Norwegian is expected to get some rest after this exhibition event before heading to Australia
Both tennis stars consider this event as extra special because normal tennis tournaments are conducted very less in this part of the world comparatively. It will be a great opportunity for Latin American tennis fans to see their stars playing in front of them and will increase the popularity of the sport.
