Once you have created an unparalleled aura around yourself, opponents too want you to come back and rule. Rafael Nadal is one of the greatest to ever grace the game. His tenacity and mental toughness have made many follow him. From small kids to seniors, admire the greatness. It’s not only the audience, though. After one stage, the ones competing against him also couldn’t help but drool over his shots.
American young champ Sebastian Korda is a massive Nadal fan. He has followed the Spaniard since his youth. The admiration was clearly visible when the American was questioned about Nadal’s comeback on the tour. The opportunity to answer a question regarding his idol was something Korda wouldn’t have passed up.
The fact that Nadal has won the French Open 14 times has inspired Korda to no limits. “He has won so many times. Every time I was there, I think he won elsewhere. It’s one of the most impressive journeys I’ve seen and witnessed in my career. Finally, the main draw is open! It is certain that we will miss him. I’m sure he’ll come back to us as fresh as before ,” said Korda.
Nadal’s withdrawal from the French Open was certainly a sorrowful moment. No one on the tour liked it. Many might feel that it’s the end for Nadal. However, Korda is very sure that one more high peak is left for the Spaniard. It could be possible, as Nadal has done it multiple times in the past. Every time he has been written off, he has come back stronger than ever. Can he do it one more time for his fans? Korda’s admiration for the Spaniard is such that he has named his cat Rafa as well. Well, the best the fans can do is, like the Americans, believe in Nadal’s comeback.
Sebastian Korda wins a match after four months
It’s been a rough 2023 for Sebastian Korda. After a decent 2022, Korda got off to a perfect start in Adelaide this year. He made it to the final, where he lost to Djokovic. However, since then, it’s been troublesome for the Americans. Injury issues came in as the quarterfinal run at the Australian Open was his last before taking a break and returning in May for the Madrid Open.
The return wasn’t ideal, as he lost back-to-back first-round matches in Madrid and Rome. However, Roland Garros seems to have brought him back on track. A straight-sets win over Mackenzie McDonald will give him much-needed confidence. He will now face qualifier Sebastian Ofner in his second-round clash. The Austrian has made it to Round 2 after a straight-sets win over Maxime Cressy.
