America’s Taylor Fritz, on Thursday, defeated France’s last hope, the 78th ranked Arthur Rinderknech 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in a tough four-set match at Court Suzanne Lenglen, during the second round of the ongoing French Open. This did not go down well with the local fans as the Frenchman’s loss left the country with no singles players in the tournament, and the ninth-seed had to listen to frequent booing from the crowd. However, Taylor ended up sushing them over and over again by placing his finger to his lips which invited more booing from the angered fans.

Though fans on Twitter continued to criticize the American for this gesture, Fritz also took his sushing to the micro-blogging platform by posting a sushing emoticon. In another tweet, he justified why he gave just one answer after the win.

Due to the noise, the 25-year-old asked the interviewer to repeat her question. “The crowd was so just so great, that I had to let it fire me up. They cheered so well for me, I wanted to make sure I won. Thanks, guys,” Fritz said during the interview as the booing continued.

Notably, Fritz was asked just one question by the interviewer. Many fans started thinking it was due to the loud jeering from the crowd and one of them pointed out how Fritz walked off the court after answering just one question post the match. But the American gave a justification to this and wrote: “Nah she said she was only asking 1 question before we started and I stayed and signed for all the kids on the way out“.
