Victoria Azarenka, the two-time singles Grand Slam champion had made it into the fourth round of the 2022 US Open but got eliminated by the Czech player Karolina Pliskova. She couldn’t participate in the grasscourt season due to the ban on Russian and Belarus players owing to the war.

Azarenka hadn’t put up spectacular performances during the hard-court season facing early-round eliminations despite making it to the quarter-finals at the Citi Open. She has been quite inconsistent with her performances lately due to injuries and lack of form. She was the first Belarusian player to have won a singles Grand Slam title after she won the Australian Open singles title in 2012.

Victoria Azarenka registered her 500th Tour level win at the Qatar Open and has won 21 WTA singles titles. She is also one of the members of the WTA Player’s council and actively participates in taking major decisions. She had to bear the brunt of all the criticism by the Ukrainian players for being less considerate and impartial towards them.

Azarenka has often been on the receiving end of people on social media questioning her credibility and her opinions regarding various issues. She was even criticized for not acknowledging Serena Williams upon her retirement. Unable to take it more, the Belarusian player finally gave a befitting reply to the trollers and haters for their antics.

She even went on to ask the reason for such actions by people who follow them first and then spread negativity against them. She even stated that there is a life beyond social media and should stop spreading negative energies around.

After her second-round win against Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine at the US Open, Kostyuk refused to do the customary handshake after the match expressing her anger against Russian players and widening the differences between players of the countries. Even her decision to withdraw from the exhibition event called ‘Tennis Plays for Peace’ organized by the US Open aimed at fundraising purposes for those affected by war was highly criticized.
