Former American legend Chris Evert is one of the female athletes who played a crucial role in popularizing women’s tennis. She made her Grand Slam tournament debut at the 1971 US Open when she was just 16 years. She completed her 68th birthday on the 21st of December. With wishes pouring in from everyone, Martina Navratilova, is one of the firsts to send across sweet birthday message for Evert.

Evert won 157 ATP singles titles including her 18 Grand Slam singles titles. She has been ranked as No. 1 for 260 weeks and also has been the year-end No. 1 singles player for seven times. The former tennis player reached 34 major singles finals which is the most by a player in history. She even holds the record of most consecutive years (13) of winning at least one major title.

Evert and Navratilova showcase one of the greatest rivals in WTA history since both equally dominated the sport between 1970 and 1980s. The 66-year-old wished her and thanked the 7-time French Open for everything. She took to her Twitter account to post the birthday message and her post was like “Happy Birthday @ChrissieEvert – thank you for everything and then some- always. Massive hug to you- xo,m.

Former Australian player Stubbs also wished Evert and congratulated her for coming out strong after battling ovarian cancer. Billie Jean King also joined the bandwagon to wish the former 3-time Wimbledon champion. The 72-year-old former tennis player acknowledged Evert’s fighting spirit in the birthday message. Jean King’s birthday message was accompanied with a lovely picture of both players that showcases their great friendship.

The former American tennis player uses Twitter to voice her opinion on a variety of topics making rounds on the internet. Chris Evert uses her popularity and massive fan following to reach out to more people. Despite facing criticism, she never denies to vocalize her opinions. The 18-time Grand Slam winner has also spoken a lot of times about equal rights for transgender athletes.

Evert has been open about her personal life including her battle against cancer and how she managed to beat it twice. Though she is single now, she has been married to several athletes before. Her personal life and relationship has always grabbed attention of the media due to its controversial nature especially with Jimmy Connors. The reason for their failed relationship was said by the 8-time Grand Slam champion in  his book ‘The Outsider’. He discussed the whole incident in detail and blamed Evert for the split.

After Connors, Evert got married to a British tennis player named John Lloyd in 1979 but got divorced 8 years later. In 1989, She married Andy Mill who was an alpine Ski Racer. This marriage lasted for 19 years and they have 3 sons together. After that, she married Greg Norman, a former professional golfer in 2008 but that even failed to strive for a long term.
