World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz had to sit out of the Australian Open 2023. Just before the tournament, the Spaniard suffered an unfortunate leg injury which derailed his plans to continue the last season’s form and add another title to his young career. The news was heartbreaking for him and his fans as the 19-year-old had to wait for another year for a title Down Under.

Though sitting out for a Grand Slam winner is hard Alcaraz is enjoying his time away from the court before making a strong comeback. The 2022 US Open champion was recently at the Romea Theater to receive an award from the Official College of Journalists of the Region of Murcia. There he opened his feelings about the time away from the competition and the equations of the ongoing Australian Open.

“I am watching the Australian Open from home and it is hard because I think that I am the one who could be there, but I am a positive person and I think that this break is good for me to realize some things that I could do better on the court. and out of it,” Alcaraz said.

The current World No. 1 is on the verge of losing the top spot as a new star will scale the ATP ranking peak after the tournament. “I’m watching what Djokovic and Tsitsipas do, but it doesn’t worry me. To take the number 1 from me, either of them has to be a champion. If it happens it will be because the one who achieves it will deserve it more than me,” he said about the prospects of either of them replacing him.

“It will be a year of pressure for me because of the titles I won in 2022,” Carlos further added.

As a champion youngster, Alcaraz is eager to make a comeback to the court and continue winning titles. He is making tremendous progress with injury and just resumed training on the clay courts of Juan Carlos Ferrero Sports Academy.

“I’m progressing well and fast and a few days ago I went back to training on the court. I really want to play, more than ever, because I’ve never been without competing for so long,” the Murcian said about his current status.

Alcaraz is expected to compete in the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires in mid-February which will be his first tournament of the season. The event is a clay court competition where Alcaraz will be a favorite. Now the fans certainly cannot wait for their star to come back strong and make up for the time lost.
