Andrey Rublev claimed a three-set victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas, as the Russian progressed into the semifinals of the Nitto ATP Finals. Placed in a group with three champions, not many expected Andrey Rublev to make it further into the tournament. However, the Russian held his nerve against Stefanos Tsitsipas, coming back from a set behind to book a date with Casper Ruud in the last four.
There were bizarre rumors about Andrey Rublev’s diet this week in Turin, Italy. It was believed that the Russian’s diet which involved shrimps and cappuccinos played a key part in his progression into the semifinals. After his victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas, the 25-year-old quashed such rumors, and stated that it was not right on the restaurant’s part to spread such fake news.
“This is bullshit on another level. ATP have to do something, because this is unacceptable. I mean I am drinking cappuccinos like a normal person, but some of the things they are writing there is not right,” said Andrey Rublev.
Andrey Rublev was quick to point out that although his diet was not among the best on tour, yet it cannot be as worse as it has been speculated.

The equation for the final round-robin stage fixture of the tournament was simple. The winner progresses into the semifinals, with the loser heading back home. It seemed all was lost for Andrey Rublev after he was outplayed in the opening set, and was losing his way in the second set as well.
However, the Russian played his best tennis of the tournament so far in the last set, which helped him seal a victory over the 2019 Nitto ATP Finals champion. He will now face Casper Ruud in the semifinals, a player against which he has a superior head-to-head record.
Andrey Rublev is making this third appearance at the year-end finals, and this is the first time that he has made it to the last four. He started off with a victory over Daniil Medvedev in the first fixture, which was followed by a loss against Novak Djokovic. Andrey Rublev could have an opportunity to avenge his loss against Novak Djokovic, as the winner of the second semifinals faces the Serbian in the final.
