“This will never, ever, ever happen again in our sport” John McEnroe ensures no one would catch Rafael Nadal’s 14 french open wins
John McEnroe and Rafael Nadal
John Mcenroe just like everyone else was shocked by the greatness of Rafael Nadal. The Spanish Bull has done it again at the age of 36 years he has managed to pull yet another surprise out of the bag and won the French Open for a record 14th time in his career.
Nadal has shown that he is definitely the greatest of all time. He has shown his class, tenacity, and skills as he managed to clinch yet another grand slam. The ‘King of Clay’ lived up to the title and won another grand slam.
He deserves all the praise he is getting from all around the world. Even John McEnroe who has been a legendary player himself was extremely impressed by what Rafael Nadal was able to achieve today at the Philippe Chartier court.
After the match in an interview on Eurosport McEnroe expressed his surprise. He said, “This will never, ever, ever happen again in our sport”. Nadal’s achievements are so unbelievable that it made McEnroe sure that none of the players in the future would be able to overtake him.
“It’s beyond belief,” John McEnroe couldn’t believe Rafael Nadal won his 22nd Grand Slam
John Mcenroe was left in shock by Rafael Nadal’s performance at the Roland Garros this year. In an interview after the match, McEnroe said, “It’s beyond belief, It took a player – [Pete] Sampras – 35 years to catch Roy Emerson. We were thinking it would be another 30 years [before the record was broken again], and now it’s one, two, three guys. Most of us thought it would be Novak [Djokovic], but then there was that horrible debacle in Australia. I don’t think Novak thought that Rafa would go and win [the Australian Open].”
He continued, “Djokovic came [to Roland-Garros] thinking ‘I’ve got to catch this guy’ and then Rafa stepped up to the plate again. If anyone comes close to this, I will stand on my head and do an entire telecast – if Eurosport invites me back in 15 years and Casper Ruud has just won his 14th straight French Open – I will stand on my head the entire telecast.”
“This will never, ever, ever happen again in our sport, that one male – or female – will win as many of these events, so enjoy it while we can. [Rafa] has been giving signs that maybe he might not play anymore, possibly. I don’t know if that’s true, but it sounds conceivable that it’s going to be his last match.” McEnroe added.
