4-time grand slam champion Naomi Osaka gets knocked out of the first round of the 2022 US Open after she lost to American Danielle Collins in straight sets 6-7(5),3-6 on Tuesday night. With this loss, for the first time since 2017, Osaka won’t be winning a major in a year. Ever since the 2021 French Open, things haven’t gone Osaka’s way and with this loss, things have become even worse for her.

Osaka has now lost 4 consecutive matches in a row and has only won one match in the 4 tournaments she played in the North American swing this season. The Japanese played very well against Collins though. She started on a positive note and was quick to take a 3-0 lead. But Collins raised her level and broke back to take the set into a tie-breaker which she won eventually.

Osaka was quick to start the second set too was once again broke first. But she was struggling to find winners throughout the match and was overdoing her forehand. Collins once again broke back and ran away with the set 6-3 to win the match and start her US Open campaign on a very high note.
