In the recent times, several players have raised objections about the scheduling of late night matches in the United States. This issue came up once again this month, as Indian Wells Masters and Miami Masters have seen matches ending well past midnight. Tommy Haas, director of the Indian Wells Masters has spoken out against late night matches, which has been detrimental to the players and the fans.

In a conversation with Rennae Stubbs, Tommy Haas stated that tennis fans do not enjoy watching matches after midnight. Moreover, it gives less recovery time to the players, especially in the case of Grand Slam events. The 2022 US Open saw several players complaining about the lack of recovery time due to the poor scheduling from the tournament officials.

I don’t think anyone of us enjoys watching tennis [at] 1, 2 in the morning and the players don’t deserve that either because again in the Grand Slams, they have the opportunity to recover the next day but by the time they get off the court, it’ll be 2 in the morning,” said Haas.

With the US Open sometimes, I can’t keep my eyes open that late. It’s 2 o’clock in the morning and they’re still playing,” added the former world No. 2,” he added.

Rennae Stubbs agreed with Tommy Haas’ opinion on the scheduling of the late night matches. She believes that this does not help the fans, who have to wake up and go to work the next day. She hopes that the tournament officials work on this issue in the next couple of years.

“More importantly, it’s the fans that are the ones that are suffering as well as the players because you know, sitting upto 2 in the morning and you have to go to work the next day. I hope that tournaments take that on board and try to start their matches early,” said the former tennis player,” she said.

The Indian Wells Masters concluded last week, as Carlos Alcaraz outplayed Daniil Medvedev in the Men’s Singles final. The Miami Masters will enter its second week, with the first leg of the American tennis tour coming to a conclusion. The tour will make a return to the country in August, with the Cincinnati Masters and US Open being the prime tournaments on the calendar.
