Venus Williams has announced her intention to return to the court during the upcoming clay season. The former world No.1 was out of action since the 2023 ASB Classic following a leg injury. The veteran had been out of play for almost a year after her last singles match of the 2021 season. She made a comeback at the 2022 Citi Open in August and participated in the Canadian Open, the Cincinnati Masters, and the US Open.

Unfortunately, she faced first-round eliminations in all four events, resulting in a 0-4 win-loss record for the year. The seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams kicked off her season at the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland on January 2, 2023. In the first round, she secured a straight-sets victory over compatriot Katie Volynets. However, in the second round, she suffered a narrow defeat in a closely contested match against China’s Lin Zhu.

One of her fans inquired whether she would be returning for the clay season, and the former World No. 1 said, “I would love to! That’s the plan. We will see.”

Ever since her update, fans are buzzing with excitement. People across the globe are wishing her a speedy recovery. The 42-year-old is one of the few who is still an active player. Although she may not compete for the titles and rankings, everyone wishes to see her once again before she finally retires. It will be great for the sport to witness her comeback in the clay season.

The 23-time Grand Slam title winner, Serena Williams has retired last year after losing in the third round of the U.S. Open against Ajla Tomljanović. It came as a shocker to the entire world. However, ever since her retirement, she had been in touch with her fans through social media and also attending events. Although Serena retired, everyone still believed that they could see her elder sister play.

Unfortunately, Venus suffered an injury that made her miss the tournaments in 2023 except for the ASB Classic. Earlier this month, Venus Williams visited London and used the opportunity to capture some photographs of the venue where she has achieved the most success in her illustrious career: Wimbledon. In addition to her five singles titles at SW19, the American legend also won six doubles titles alongside her sister Serena Williams.

All in all, this is certainly a piece of great news for all tennis lovers across the globe. Venus will be known for her remarkable tennis in both singles and doubles(pairing up with her sister). She won seven Grand Slam singles titles, 14 doubles and two mixed doubles titles in total. Her contribution to the sport is so huge that tennis will miss her after she retires.
