The Pickleball Slam, a new tournament, saw Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick emerge victorious over John McEnroe and Michael Chang in its first edition on April 2. The event took place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, which was only around 10 miles away from where Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner were competing for the 2023 Miami Open title. The four participants, who are all Grand Slam champions, played pickleball instead of tennis.

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida hosted the first Pickleball Slam on Sunday (April 2) where four Grand Slam champions – Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, John McEnroe and Michael Chang – competed in the inaugural event. In the first singles match, McEnroe defeated Agassi with a score of 15-13, 16-14, and Roddick beat Chang 15-10, 15-10. The highlight of the event was the doubles match, where Agassi and Roddick defeated McEnroe and Chang 21-15, 21-23, 12-10.

Andre Agassi, who had the support of his wife Steffi Graf and daughter Jaz in the stands, expressed his fondness for pickleball, despite it being considered a sport where tennis players go to retire. When asked if he would continue to play pickleball, the 52-year-old responded: “100% guys. I never thought I was gonna say this, but I am playing this as long as I can walk. I can’t wait to get back out there. Pickleball is where tennis players go to die.”

The four retired tennis players had engaged in some humorous social media banter before the Pickleball Slam in order to promote the event. During the actual tournament, they continued to have fun and entertain the audience with their antics.
