Jannik Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Vienna Open to win his fourth trophy of 2023. The Italian defeated Daniil Medvedev in back-to-back finals—first in the China Open two weeks ago and now in the Vienna Open.
Surprisingly, he had never won a single match against Medvedev before the 2023 China Open, and now he is 2-6 against the Russian. They are 2-2 in tour-level finals in 2023, as Medvedev defeated Jannik Sinner in the finals of Rotterdam and Miami earlier this year.
With this, Daniil Medvedev maintains his record of not being able to win any title twice in his career and after the final, he hilariously mocked himself for this. However, he also promised that he would look to put an end to this and defend the title soon. He will get two more attempts to do that this year – in the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals. He won both the tournaments back in 2020.
I have a thing apparently, I can not defend my title anywhere I won it. Just i’ll try to do it next time here too, but I hope to do it already in Paris or somewhere else.

Talking about the final between Janik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev, the Italian won the match 7-6(7), 4-6, 6-3 to clinch the title. He has now won four hard court trophies this year, namely the Montpellier, Toronto, China, and Vienna Open. After losing the first set, Daniil Medvedev tried to make a comeback and even won the second set. Unfortunately, he failed to keep the momentum going and ended up giving away the match.
Daniil Medvedev looks to win the 2023 Paris Masters
The 2023 Rolex Paris Masters has already begun, but Daniil Medvedev’s campaign starts on October 31st, directly from the round of 32 alongside Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Rune, i.e., all the players who got let.
Medvedev has a brilliant record at the Paris Masters. He won the tournament in 2020 and lost to Novak Djokovic in the finals in 2021. His poor run in the 2022 edition of the tournament, where he got knocked out in the round of 32, will definitely not hold him back, as he has been in sensational form this year.
However, the Russian needs to do something about his recent habit of losing finals. He recently lost in the finals of the US Open, the China Open, and now the Vienna Open.
