The Kazakh tennis professional won her career’s fourth and this season’s first WTA title. This is also her first WTA 1000 title. Winning the Wimbledon 2022 ladies singles title was a memorable journey for her. Unfortunately, it did not translate into any ranking points for her as the Grand Slam was stripped off ranking points. Winning the Indian Wells Open women’s singles title, hence, helped her in many ways.

After losing the final of the Australian Open and disappointment in the subsequent tournaments, Indian Wells has been a memorable one for Elena Rybakina for more than one reason. She not only lifted the trophy but also defeated both the top two players — Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka in the process. She defeated the current World No.1 in the semi-final round 6-2, 6-2.

This helped her to breach the Top 10 of the WTA singles rankings for the first time in her career. She is the current World No.7. However, after winning the Indian Wells Open, her eyes would be set on winning the next tournament in the sunshine doubles- the Miami Open 2023. Winning both the competitions can help her greatly to climb the WTA singles rankings as the clay swing of the tennis season will begin shortly.
