Carlos Alcaraz crushes Facundo Bagnis in straight sets to advance into the third round in Miami.
Bagnis vs Alcaraz
On Friday at the Miami Open, Carlos Alcaraz secured a straight-set victory, maintaining his top world ranking, while Novak Djokovic remained inactive. The 19-year-old tennis player beat Facundo Bagnis 6-0, 6-2 to progress to the third round. The unseeded was nowhere near to the likes of Alcaraz as the match was completed in just 14 games.
However, Bagnis celebrated his first game win in the second set in style. He lost eight consecutive games in the match before winning his first game. He tossed his racket in the air after trailing behind Alcaraz 0-6, 0-2. The Spaniard never allowed him to gain momentum, and Bagnis could only win two games in the match.
The scenes in Miami indicate how Alcaraz is currently operating as he only keeps getting better. The world No.1 is in top form and is showing no mercy. He probably wants to keep himself fresh as much as possible. Hence he is trying to finish the matches as quickly as possible. Bagnis stood no chance as he could only celebrate his first game win against the top seed.
The match was completed in just 64 minutes and Alcaraz extended his winning streak starting from the Indian Wells Open. He advanced through to the third round in Miami and was a step closer to his title defense. Fans are turning up for his practice sessions too to enjoy watching him play. The top seed will play against Dušan Lajović in the third round later this week.
Carlos Alcaraz thrashes Facundo Bagnis to reach the third round in Miami
Despite Carlos Alcaraz serving at 53%, it went unnoticed. He lost 13 points in seven service games and was broken once out of two opportunities presented to his opponent. Although, the Argentine couldn’t keep up with that rhythm, as he only won 17 points behind his initial serve and faced 11 breakpoints. Facundo Bagnis was no match for his formidable opponent, managing only four winners while committing 30 unforced errors.
Alcaraz had a significant advantage in the quick and mid-range exchanges, controlling his shots effectively and conserving energy for future matches. Bagnis could not hold his serve too in the first set and lost it 6-0. He was trailing behind 0-2 in the second set too before securing his first game win in the third game. He later went on to break Alcaraz’s serve and tied the score 2-2.
In the seventh game, the Spanish player broke his opponent’s serve to take a commanding 5-2 lead. He then hit a superb forehand down-the-line winner in the following game to secure victory and advance to the third round. The 19-year-old bounced back strong and won the set in the next four games. Overall, the defending champion of the Miami Open started his tournament in style.
