Legendary tennis icon Serena Williams is on her farewell run and is playing her last professional tournament- the ongoing US Open. Serena announced a few weeks ago that she’ll be hanging her boots after the US Open and cited her age and change in priorities as the reason for her retirement call.
In the opening round of the US Open, she defeated Danka Kovinic in front of a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium and set up a meeting with second seed Anett Kontaveit- who was going to be a big challenge for her. Many assumed that this second-round clash could be Serena’s last tennis match given the challenge she had ahead of her.
To witness this, thousands of fans showed up on Wednesday night including some eminent celebrities from various walks of life. The highlight of the night amongst the crowd was Golf legend and Serena’s good friend, Tiger Woods, who was spotted alongside girlfriend Erica Herman. Both of them were present in Serena’s box along with her family.
Woods was later joined by Serena’s elder sister, Venus Williams. Both Venus and Serena will play doubles together on Ashe and are scheduled to play on Thursday night. Other notable names who showed up are Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Actress Zendaya, and models Gigi and Bella Hadid.

Tiger Woods animated after Serena Williams won the opening set
Serena won a very tight opening set against Kontaveit. The set went into a tie-breaker which Serena won and required just one mini-break to do so. The crowd erupted as soon as she won the set and so did her box. Woods looked the most excited and was screaming and fist-pumping, to everyone’s delight. This reaction from him got the internet’s eye and Twitter won’t stop talking about the same.
